Updated 16th May 2008

After a whitewash defeat at Dean on the opening day of the season Leith 1st XVI picked up their first points of the season, a 5-4 defeat against Pilrig at Leith on Wednesday night.  Davie Morris with a 21-12 win and Drew Dodds with a 19-10 win were the leading skips for Leith.

The 2nd XVI continued their good start to the season with a second consecutive 8-1 victory, turning over Mayfield on their home patch. This will keep Leith on top of the 2nd XVI Division 2 league.

Just Champion! Jimmy Malcolm wins his first Championship at Leith beating Paul Bryce in well balanced final on Friday Night. Paul who joined this season from Edinburgh Civil Service has made his mark in his first season at Leith but will be disappointed not to have put the icing on the cake with a victory. Jimmy celebrated afterwards with his wife Susan and a few JDs and Coke..."hic"

EBL 2nd XVI Division 2: Leith 2nd XVI also celebrated on Wednesday after securing promotion to Division 1 as Champions after a 6 - 3 win over Goldenacre.

Edinburgh Cup

Leith progress into the next round of the Edinburgh Cup following a win over Maitland in the opening round. Two points from the home rinks along with six more from the visiting rinks at Maitland ensured our place in next weeks fixtures. Things were looking black for Leith at Maitland when we had two rinks trailing by seven shots with ends running out, however strong finishes from Drew Dodds and Dave Morris, both winning by one shot, turned the result in our favour.

EBL Knockout Competitions

Leith triple loose out to St Andrew Steelworks at Liberton in the Edinburgh Bowling League knockout competition.

Updated 8th August 2005

Just Champion:

In a one sided final on Friday night, Robert Wood wins his first Championship at Leith. After a solid win against Nicky Brown in the semi final Robert maintained his good form to cruise to victory 21 - 6 against Leith newcomer Jimmy Sim.

Although Jimmy will be disappointed with the result he can console himself with his performance over the whole season, in particular his 21 - 6 win over six times Champion Archie Davidson in the semi final.

Senior Section Champion:

The Senior Section Champion for 2005 is Drew Brown who edged out Alex Walker in the final.

EBL Knockout Competitions

With only the Triples still competing in the Edinburgh Bowling League Knockout Competition we look to Mike McBrierty, Robert Crighton and Alex Walker for success this year. They face a tough tie against St Anfrew Steelworks at Liberton on Thursday night.

Edinburgh Bowling League week 14

1st XVI:  Leith 3 - 6 Dean. The final nail in the coffin sees Leith go down 6 - 3 to Dean. It's been a disappointing season for Leith, after winning promotion as champions last year we were confident of consolidating a place in the top flight.

2nd XVI:  Corstorphine 2 - 6 Leith. A good away victory at Corstorphine sees Leith overtake the hosts to secure third spot in the division.

Third Team, Division 1:   Cards not available.

Third Team, Division 3:   Cards not available.

Results elsewhere see Craigentinny finish the season as 1st XVI, Division 1 Champions, our congratulations to them.

Hillside are confirmed as 2nd XVI, Division 2 Champions. Well done to Hillside who now have their 1st & 2nd XVIs in Division 1 of the Edinburgh Bowling League.

Edinburgh Bowling League week 13

1st XVI:  Craigentinny 9 - 0 Leith.  This result ends any hopes of staying in the division. Next season will see Leith 1st XVI play in the second division.

2nd XVI  Leith 7 - 2 Queensberry. A great result after the disappointment of last week, a good result next week should secure a third place finish.

Third Team, Division 1:   Cards not available.

Third Team, Division 3:   Cards not available.

Edinburgh Bowling League week 12

1st XVI:  Leith 2 - 7 Hillside. More pain for the 1st XVI as we loose out to Hillside. Relegation looms large as we only manage 2 points from this home fixture.

2nd XVI:  Hillside 9 - 0 Leith.  Any faint hopes of promotion were finally killed off with this result at Hillside. A strong finish will be needed if we are to claim third spot in the division.

Third Team, Division 1:   Cards not available.

Third Team, Division 3:   Cards not available.

Edinburgh Bowling League week 9

1st XVI:  Northern 5 - 4 Leith. A narrow defeat at Northern is disappointing as we strive to move clear of the relegation zone. Results elsewhere are not in our favour and we move down one place to 7th spot. An away tie at Pilrig next week will be another tough nut to crack but we will remain confident.

Other Results:   Dean 9 - 0 Pilrig:    Tanfield 9 - 0 Parkside:    Hillside 7 - 2 Craigentinny.

Updated 26h June 2005

Edinburgh Cup   Leith v Wardie:   Lieth loose to Wardie in the preliminary round of the Edinburgh Cup on Friday night. The best Leith could mange was two winning rinks and a peel. We have still to resurrect the form which won us the trophy in 2000, roll on 2006's cup draw.

Edinburgh Bowling League week 8

1st XVI: Leith 4 - 5 Tanfield. A predictably tough match with Tanfield at Leith sees last years champions edge us out with a couple of winning rinks and the aggregate too. Leith remain above Northern and Dean at the foot of the table but a visit to northern next week needs to be successful if we are to stay out of the relegation zone.

SBA Singles: John Ramsay. John Ramsay's good form continues with an excellent win over Willie McDonald from Craigentinny. Willie set the pace for most of this tie and led John by 20 shots to 14 but John's drawing game proved the more effective and saw him reach 21 first.

Miller Trophy, Leith v ELBA Committee:

Leith played out an entertaining but uninspiring match against ELBA in the Miller Trophy on Tuesday night. A single shot win for Robert Wood was the only success on the night with Duncan Davidson  peeling at 17 and Peter McCabe going down by 4 shots. It was however, to be a good night for Paul McCabe of Leith as he was asked to guest for ELBA after a late call off from Willie Tweedie.       Paul played his part in the ELBA winning rink skipped by Willie Weir. A 4 shot deficit overall is unlikely to secure the Miller Trophy this year but as we say at Leith "Persevere"

Edinburgh Cup Draw: Leith are paired up with Wardie in the first round of the Edinburgh Cup. Memories of a great final win against Wardie in 2000 should give Leith the edge in this tie.     Wardie on the other hand will be looking for revenge and will be tough opposition to overcome.
